Pompeii
Monday we got up early after a dull and kind of boring night and headed to Pompeii. Which is only about 25miles from where we are staying or in other words about 25miles from OO8's mom's place. I didn't know this but in the winter when the kids are in school here they do a field trip there. Those lucky suckers, we see it on NatGeo and they do it as a school trip. We started our journey about 9am and ended up at Pompeii around 10am I think. We hopped on 3 trains to get there which was an interesting journey in itself being I have never rode the train that much since I have been here. Ok, yeah I have taken it from Pozzuoli and then again to Napoli, the city itself but not like Monday.
Finally in Pompeii Scavi there were all sorts of tourists and all sorts of people trying to get you to take a guided tour. Now true I have never been there and true I may never go again but I didn't need a guide and didn't want an audio tour. I wanted some pics to say I have been there and then to walk around and see what it is like. I mean I have seen the special on NatGeo enough times that I can walk through it, see the special on TV and be set, lol. I did take plenty of pics and I mean plenty of pics. Pompeii is huge. I knew it was big but my goodness. I got tired after a good long while and decided to call it quits without seeing the entire thing. I mean after a while it started to all look alike ya know. Some buildings/homes bigger than others, some more destroyed than others, some places they have blocked off and you could no longer get through to see. You are walking on the acient Roman streets, blah blah blah. I mean it was like walking through Arlington if something had happened to it. You find some interesting art work and homes and remains but after a while you are like ok, QUIT!!! Our fault we didn't pack a lunch or anything or even water, although we grabbed water on our way in but still I can only take so much of history, lol.
We were so tired and sweaty after that we had to come back to Hotel Di Omar's Momma and take a well needed nap. Of course he/we called the DDQ aka Diva Drama Queen for him to come pick us up for the Monkey Bar later that evening.
Kermit

Girl, it sounds beautiful but I am with you on the tour! I hate guided tours. I would rather discover on my own.
